Bença Aqueduct

Bença Aqueduct is a cultural monument of the 1st category. It is located on the river Bënçë about 2 km north of the village with the same name. The Aqueduct is a Hydrotechnical work of the 19th century, which was used to provide water to the Tepelena castle. This monument has been built during Ali Pasha Tepelena period. It suffered severe damage as a result of an earthquake in the 1930s and was rebuilt, but not in its authenticity form. The monument is on a bridge, which is compounded by the water canal, the column of the monument, and the bridge over which are some of its columns, in most of where the Benca River passes. The water canal is with special stones and concrete and is held by 21 columns. These columns have a square shape, with different heights, depending on the canal slope. The bridge has three arches. The water canal has been built with concrete in which small stones have been placed. The aqueducts and bridges are built of medium-sized stones. We also have arches in the parts where the monument approaches the mountains.
